ReoCities

One of the original rescue mirrors created when GeoCities shut down in 2009, preserving pages saved during that effort. Browsing and searching happen on the site itself; there is no API, so we link to its search form. As one of several independent rescue projects, it may hold pages the other mirrors missed, which makes it worth checking when a page can't be found elsewhere.

Why it’s useful & how it works

ReoCities was launched in the final days of GeoCities by Jacques Mattheij as a personal effort to save as much as possible before the Yahoo shutdown on October 26, 2009. Because each rescue project captured a different subset of pages, ReoCities may hold copies that OoCities and other mirrors missed, making it worth checking when a specific page cannot be found elsewhere. Echo links you to the ReoCities search form and you run the search there on the site.

What’s inside

The exact number of pages in ReoCities is not publicly documented, but it represents a meaningful subset of GeoCities captured in the last days of the service. Like all 2009-era rescues, coverage is partial relative to the estimated 38 million pages that made up the original GeoCities.
