GifCities (GeoCities GIFs)
A dedicated search engine for animated GIFs salvaged from GeoCities, rebuilt in 2025 with semantic search. Type a term and it returns matching GIFs from the rescued corpus; its open search endpoint also lets this site query it directly. Reach for it when researching 1990s web aesthetics or hunting a specific piece of early-web imagery.

Why it’s useful & how it works
FIXED: the real search endpoint is /search?q=<term>&page_size=N (not the /api/v1/gifs path) — returns 200 both ways. Semantic GIF search over GeoCities GIFs. Niche/link-catalogue tier.
