Introduction
Archivarix Echo ("we", "us", "our") respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and how we protect it when you use the service.
Information we collect
- Account information. When you register, we collect your email address and password (stored only in hashed form). We never see or store your password in plain text.
- Usage data. We collect anonymized search queries, page views, and feature-usage statistics to improve the service. IP addresses are processed only for rate limiting and abuse prevention.
- Search history. If you are signed in, your searches are saved to your account so you can return to them. You can clear your history at any time, and deleting your account removes it.
- Cookies and local storage. We use strictly essential cookies for authentication sessions, and local storage for your preferences (such as theme and language). We do not use advertising, analytics, or third-party tracking cookies.
How we use your information
We use the information we collect solely to: provide and maintain the service; authenticate your account and remember your search history; enforce usage limits and prevent abuse; and improve search quality and reliability. We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to anyone.
Data sharing
We do not share your personal information with third parties except: (a) when required by applicable law, regulation, or legal process; or (b) to protect our rights, property, or safety. Anonymized, aggregated statistics that cannot identify an individual user may be shared publicly.
When you open a result, you are sent to a third-party archive (for example the Wayback Machine or archive.today). Those archives have their own privacy practices, which we do not control. Echo does not transmit your account details to them.
Data retention
Account information is retained while your account is active. You may request deletion of your account and all associated personal data at any time by contacting us. Usage logs are retained for a limited period and then automatically purged.
Security
We apply reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS), password hashing, and access controls. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we work to keep your data safe.
Your rights
Regardless of where you live, you have the right to: access the personal data we hold about you; request correction of inaccurate data; request deletion of your data; and object to or restrict how we process it. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at the link below.
Children's privacy
The service is not intended for children under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we learn that we have, we will delete it promptly.
