НЭБ. National Electronic Library (rusneb.ru)
Russia's National Electronic Library aggregates digitized books, periodicals, and dissertations from the Russian State Library and partner institutions. Public-domain scans can be read directly in the web viewer; in-copyright works are restricted to reading rooms. Search the collection on the website, useful for pre-revolutionary and Soviet-era Russian print that exists nowhere else online. The site was unreachable during our last check, so availability may vary.
No programmatic check, opens the archive’s own search.
Why it’s useful & how it works
The National Electronic Library is the main aggregator for digitized Russian-language print held in the Russian State Library and dozens of partner institutions, making it the primary online source for pre-revolutionary books, Soviet-era periodicals, and Russian dissertations. Public-domain scans can be read in the web viewer without an account; in-copyright materials are restricted to reading rooms at participating institutions. The site is searched directly on the rusneb.ru website, and availability from outside Russia may be inconsistent.
What’s inside
Nearly 6 million digitized documents as of 2024, including books, periodicals, dissertations, maps, and musical scores from the Russian State Library and partner archives, with over 94 percent in open access.
