Mojeek

An independent UK search engine that runs its own crawler rather than reselling Bing or Google results. You search through its normal web interface; a commercial paid API exists but is not used here, so we link out to the site. Useful when you want an index that doesn't simply mirror the big engines' view of the web.

Why it’s useful & how it works

Mojeek is one of the very few search engines that operates a fully independent crawler and index rather than reselling results from Google or Bing. This makes it useful when you want a genuinely different view of the web, free from the ranking decisions of the major platforms. It also does not track users or build profiles. Echo links you to Mojeek's search form because its API is commercial; you run the search there on the site itself.

What’s inside

Mojeek's index contains over five billion pages, built and maintained entirely by its own crawler, MojeekBot. It is among the largest self-crawled indexes operated independently of the major search platforms, though still considerably smaller than Google or Bing.
