Why it’s useful & how it works
bioRxiv is the leading preprint server for the life sciences, run by Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (now under the openRxiv nonprofit). Biologists post papers here before or alongside journal submission, meaning you can read the science weeks or months before peer review concludes. You search and read on biorxiv.org, and paper details including abstracts, author lists, and DOIs are also available through a shared API that Echo queries for you.
What’s inside
More than 310,000 preprints since its launch in 2013, with around 4,000 new papers posted each month. Neuroscience, genomics, and cell biology are the largest subject areas.
