Why it’s useful & how it works
Archive of Our Own is the definitive archive for fan-created works across thousands of source fandoms, valued by researchers for its rich tagging system that lets you filter by fandom, relationship, character, content rating, and dozens of other facets. It is run as a non-profit by the Organization for Transformative Works. Because AO3 has no public API by policy, Echo links you directly to its search and browse interface where you run queries and apply filters yourself.
What’s inside
As of mid-2025, AO3 hosts more than 15 million fanworks in over 50 languages, making it the largest fanfiction archive in the world. The collection spans fiction, art, audio, and video across hundreds of thousands of distinct fandoms.
