Wayback, reddit.com
The Wayback Machine applied to reddit.com URLs, holding archived snapshots of threads and profiles with good coverage of popular discussions. You check whether a thread was captured and open the saved copy via replay links. Because it does not depend on Reddit's own API, it is one of the more reliable ways to recover removed or deleted Reddit content.
Why it’s useful & how it works
The Wayback Machine is valuable here because its Reddit snapshots exist independently of Reddit's own systems, making it one of the few places you can recover content from periods when Reddit was inaccessible or content was deleted before any dedicated archive caught it. You use it by supplying a specific Reddit thread or profile URL and checking whether a snapshot was captured on the date you need, then opening the saved copy in the archive's page replay viewer. Note that Reddit began blocking new Wayback Machine crawls of posts and profiles in 2025, so coverage of recent content is increasingly limited to what was captured before that restriction.
What’s inside
Snapshots extend back to Reddit's early years, with stronger coverage of high-traffic threads and subreddits. New captures of individual posts and profiles have been restricted since 2025, so the archive is most useful for content from before that point.

Slow: budget for long waits, or call it asynchronously.
CDX is slow (17-25s); use the Availability API for existence checks, CDX only for full capture lists.
