Ghostarchive

A small independent on-demand archiver, notable for handling YouTube videos and Twitter posts as well as ordinary web pages. Snapshots are reached by direct links to individual archive pages; there is no search API. Check it when hunting for preserved copies of social-media content that mainstream web archives tend to capture poorly.

Why it’s useful & how it works

Ghostarchive is a small independent on-demand archiver with a particular strength: it can capture YouTube videos and Twitter posts as well as ordinary web pages, content that large crawlers typically cannot preserve well. Anyone can submit a URL on ghostarchive.org without an account; the snapshot is created within minutes and stored with redundancy. There is no keyword search, so you retrieve a capture either by entering the original URL on the site or through a direct archive link. Echo links you to the capture page, where the archived site renders through a high-fidelity viewer or a simpler fallback for older browsers.

What’s inside

Ghostarchive is a small volunteer-run project and does not publish collection statistics. Video captures are capped at 100 megabytes and archived at up to 360p quality; the focus is on preserving content rather than on scale.
