Conifer (Rhizome, ex-Webrecorder.io)

A hosted capture service from Rhizome (formerly Webrecorder.io) for high-fidelity, interactive recordings of web pages, gathered into thousands of user-created collections. You browse collections and open individual recordings on the website; there is no public search API. Be aware the service is winding down: capture and editing stop in May 2026 and from June 2026 it becomes read-only, though existing collections stay viewable.

Why it’s useful & how it works

Conifer was the archive to reach for when you needed a faithful, fully interactive recording of a complex, JavaScript-heavy page that simpler crawlers would mangle. Collections were organised by user and open for anyone to browse. Be aware the service has wound down: new captures stopped in May 2026, and from June 2026 it is a read-only archive. You can still open and view existing recordings on the site; you just cannot create new ones.

What’s inside

Thousands of user-created collections of interactive web recordings, accumulated since 2016. No aggregate page count has been published; individual collections range from a handful of recordings to hundreds.

API access

no public query API

An API key is required (usually free); see the endpoints above for where to get one.
