PullPush is the main practical tool for searching Reddit's past at scale. It inherited the Pushshift dataset, which began collecting Reddit posts and comments from around 2005, and continues updating it. You search through a simple JSON API by specifying a subreddit name, a keyword, a username, or a date range, with no registration or key required. It is especially useful for finding comments or posts that were removed or deleted, since it captured content before those removals happened.
