DNB Webarchiv (German National Library)

The German National Library's selective web archive, collecting thematic snapshots of German websites since 2012. There is no search API: you browse the thematic collections through the portal, which are free to view worldwide, while deeper content is restricted to the library's reading rooms. Worth checking when tracing German sites or subjects its collections cover.

Son utilité et son fonctionnement

The German National Library's web archive focuses on selected subjects and events rather than broad domain crawls: you will find websites of federal authorities and universities, literary and cultural topics, and event-driven collections such as federal elections or major anniversaries. Some thematic collections compiled with the International Internet Preservation Consortium, covering topics like climate change and the coronavirus pandemic, are freely accessible from anywhere in the world. Most other content is restricted to the library's reading rooms in Leipzig and Frankfurt. Echo links you to the archive portal so you can browse its available collections directly.

Ce qu’elle contient

The archive is selective and thematic rather than comprehensive; collection began in 2012. No aggregate file count or storage figure is published by the library, and the holdings reflect targeted gathering rather than full-domain crawls.
