DPLA

The Digital Public Library of America aggregates digitized items from libraries, archives, and museums across the United States into one searchable index. Searching is done on its website; a free-key API is also available. Reach for it when looking for American historical materials without knowing which institution holds them.

Warum es nützlich ist & wie es funktioniert

DPLA is the broadest single entry point for American historical and cultural materials: instead of knowing which library, archive, or museum holds something, you search across thousands of US institutions at once. You search by keyword and filter by date, format, or contributing institution, and each result links to the holding partner where you can view the full item. Its strength lies in pulling together collections that would otherwise require separate visits to dozens of different websites.
